To say SAFE Haven For Cats has grown in the last 12 years is an understatement! Back in 1994 we started with $800 in cash. Today, our budget is over $300,000.
In 1994 we adopted 52 cats; this year 451. This Website which didn't even exist in 1994, is now visited by over 5,000 per month and we receive 55 calls and e-mails per DAY about stray cats in our community. We used to care for 20 cats every day and now it is over 75. We now have our own spay and neuter clinic that provides sterilization to 1,400 cats per year. In 1994 we had 4 volunteers per week - today we have 60 per week in 12 different shifts.
SHFC is still a mostly volunteer organization. We have only four full time paid positions and we keep our overhead as low as possible to be able to spend more on our two main programs: Adoption & Spay/Neuter. Below you will see a pie chart that shows how the money is spent.
SHFC does not get any municipal, city, state or federal funds. All the money to support the shelter comes from individual donations like yours. SHFC is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible.

Razzmatazz Medical Fund
A fund for extraordinary medical expenses. The Razzmatazz Medical Fund was established and named for Razzmatazz, a kitten who arrived at the shelter with a life threatening medical condition. Following successful surgery, Razz is living a normal and happy life. The fund continues to help other cats and kittens just like Razz.

Spay/Neuter Assistance Fund
With our own low cost spay and neuter clinic right at the shelter we can provide sterilization services to those who will assume ownership of a stray cat in their neighborhood or who will become permanent caretakers of feral cats. Also, as money becomes available in this fund, we are able to offer discounts to pople who can't afford the fee.

SHFC accepts corporate sponsorships to help keep the Triangle's original no-kill shelter up and running. Your corporate sponsorship could make a big difference in the life of a stray, orphaned, injured or feral cat.
State Employees Combined Campaign
Donation No: 2566
SHFC has been accepted into the State Employees Combined Campaign again this year. If you work for the Department of Justice, NC State University, or any other government office you can now designate your workplace gift directly to help keep the Triangle's original no-kill shelter up and running. Most workplace campaigns will be kicking off in late summer throughout the fall. We are listed in the campaign literature as an Independent Agency - Donation Number: 2566 Your payroll deduction could make a big difference in the life of a stray, orphaned, injured or feral cat.
United Way
If your workplace has an annual United Way Campaign you can specify that your gift comes to SHFC by writing in our name. Only your gift of $50 or more comes to SHFC.
Employer Matching Gifts
Many companies encourage employees to support local charities through a matching gifts program. These generous employer-sponsored programs can double your donation to SHFC. Just ask your human resources department if a matching gift form is available to send to SHFC with your donation. We will take care of the rest.
