HOW TO ADOPT

Adopting from SAFE Haven For Cats

You want to adopt a cat. Here is some information you'll need to know.

APPLICATION & APPOINTMENT

Step 1

All potential adopters have to fill out our adoption application. To save time before you arrive, please complete our online adoption application.

Once you fill out the application here is what will happen:

  • You will be contacted by phone within 48 hours.
  • A trained volunteer will interview you about your needs and the type of cat you are looking for. They will answer any questions you may have about medical care, etc. This may take about 5 or 10 minutes.
  • If we have several cats we think would be great for you, we will schedule an appointment for you to come to the shelter that weekend (or in two or three weeks if that would be more convenient.)

SELECTING YOUR CAT

Step 2

When you arrive at the shelter a trained volunteer adoption counselor will assist you with picking the very best cat/kitten to make a life-long match for you and your family (including other pets!). This usually takes from 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

You will take the cat home that very day! After signing an Adoption Contract, you will also receive free of charge: a 4 lb. bag of Premium Science Diet food (special thanks to Hills Science Diet); and educational handouts to ease the cat’s transition to it’s new home.

In addition, we have a mini-store in our lobby for other cat necessities such as carriers, litter boxes, cute collars and bowls.

The adoption fees range from $50-$100 (see our FAQs). We accept personal checks, cash and credit card . All cats adopted from SHFC have complete (up to their current age) medical care including sterilization and microchipping.*

* Your new companion comes with a lifetime locator microchip. SAFE Haven will collect the one-time registration fee of $12, and send the registration in for you. It can be updated on-line anytime.
