It's easy to volunteer with SAFE Haven For Cats. Just complete the following Volunteer Application form.

This electronic application will be forwarded by e-mail to SAFE Haven For Cats for review. We will get back to you as quickly as possible to invite you to tour the shelter. Please complete all questions.

Completion of this application means you are 16 years of age or older. Please note that if you are under the age of 18, a parent or guardian signature will be required.

Volunteer Opportunities

Taking Care of the Shelter Environment

Wash and disinfect food dishes

Wash and disinfect kitty litter boxes

Clean cages, scoop litter boxes

Vacuum and mop shelter floors

Do Laundry

Cleaning Captain: Supervise volunteers one shift weekly or bi-monthly

Pick up litter at grocery store (need truck and strong back)

Taking Care of the Cats

Play and exercise with cats in Playroom with lots of TLC
Grooming and brushing cats
Work with shy cats using toys, food rewards and other behavior modification
Become special friend to shy/timid cat for at least 2-3 hours per week

Adoption Program

Consider fostering special needs cat until adopted
Train to become Adoption Counselor (3 Hr Shift every other weekend)
Write clever and eye catching descriptions of cats

Educational/Fundraising

Staff special events - promote our mission, recruit volunteers
Write articles/take photos for volunteer newsletter
Participate in fundraising activities like bake sales, holiday gift wrapping, etc.

Schedule and Availability

Please indicate your availability below. We ask that you volunteer for at least a two-hour block of time at least twice per month:

Feed/Water cats, minor cage clean-up daily

Thursdays

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Clean cages and play with cats afterwards

Saturdays

8:30 am - 10:30 am
Clean the shelter and get ready for public

Sundays

9:00 am - 11:00 am
Clean the shelter and get ready for public.

Liability Waiver

The undersigned hereby acknowledges that working with animals may be dangerous and can lead to serious injury or even death. The undersigned understands and agrees to personally assume any and all liability and risks of working at SAFE Haven For Cats. Further, the undersigned agrees to hold harmless SAFE Haven For Cats, its officers and agents, from any responsibility or liability for any and all personal injuries or death which may occur during the term of this agreement.

Your acceptance into our volunteer program is dependent on your attitude towards volunteer work, your comfort level in regards to working with animals, your attitude towards shelters and our specific philosophies and mission, and whether or not we have positions available on the dates you are available.
