SAFE Haven For Cats (SHFC) is a no-kill shelter for cats located in the North Raleigh area of North Carolina. We are a unique community-based animal shelter. In addition to providing adoption services for cats and kittens in need of good homes, we also manage a foster program for animals requiring a little extra love and care. We further assist our community in providing feline spay and neuter services in connection with SAFE Care Feline Spay Neuter Clinic.

WHY VOLUNTEER?

Raleigh Animal Shelter Volunteer

There are many reasons to volunteer your time at an animal shelter:

OUR VOLUNTEER ENVIRONMENT

You're Appreciated Here!

Volunteers at SHFC are valued and thanked every day. Why? Because SHFC counts heavily on volunteers.

Except for five full time paid positions, all the tasks involved in running the shelter and getting the cats and kittens ready for adoption are done by volunteers. Without volunteers SHFC would not be as successful as it is in finding homes for homeless cats and kittens.

Volunteers work at SHFC every day. Anyone age 16 or older who has a compassionate heart and a few hours a month can volunteer at SHFC.

SHFC is a happy place that is brightly lit and colorful. The shelter (unlike shelters of the past) has wide aisles, skylights, high ceilings and ceiling fans. It is very clean and pleasant smelling.

Cats are housed in roomy open sided cat enclosures providing a 360 degree view of them (and they of you!), and in unique community housing rooms. Two large playrooms are available for one-on-one visits with the cats.

SHFC has an excellent safety record and volunteers are always under supervision while at the shelter. SHFC is inspected annually and is licensed by the NC Department of Agriculture, Veterinary Division.

BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING

Rewarding Opportunities Await

  • The opportunity to work with a group of positive, dynamic individuals who love animals as much as you do.
  • Chances to learn more about cat behavior and handling techniques, vaccine protocols or the latest treatments for illness – skills that may provide benefits to your own pets.
  • An opportunity to work in a no-kill animal shelter.
  • A chance to give a valuable gift to the cats – your time. If you are unable to make a monetary donation why not volunteer instead?
  • Experience the reward of knowing you helped save the life of a homeless animal. Our volunteers are elated when a cat finds a new home and leaves the shelter.
  • Really make a difference in the community and see direct results from your efforts.
