COVID-19 Adoption Appointment System
Adoptions are by appointment only; all potential adopters must submit an Adoption Interest Survey. Once received, an adoption counselor will contact the individual and talk through the adoption process. The adoption program will send out an invite to a scheduling calendar once the adoption counselor provides the necessary information to them.
Appointments are available as follows:
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday : 11 am, 12:30 pm, 2 pm, 3:30 pm
- Thursday and Friday: 11 am, 12:30 pm, 2 pm, 3:30 pm, 5 pm, and 6:30 pm
After receipt of your Adoption Interest Survey you will be sent a link to sign up for an appointment to come visit the cats.
No walk-ins at this time.
Visitors must wear masks during their time at SAFE Haven; the staff reserves the right to check temperatures using a contact-free thermometer.
Adopters may bring a carrier from home; staff will clean and disinfect the outside of the carrier before handling and/or placing a cat inside.
Individuals who are feeling ill, running a fever, or coughing should avoid scheduling an appointment until they feel better.
Visitors are limited due to social distancing and health guidelines:
- One adult and two children under 13 OR One adult and one child older than 13 OR Two adults
- We encourage larger groups to use virtual tools such as FaceTime to show how the cat plays and interacts.
- All individuals must remain together during the duration of the appointment.
Each appointment is set up for one hour.
Visitors should plan to arrive as close to the appointment time as possible. It is advisable that visitors send a text message or email to email@example.com before entering the shelter to avoid crowding in the lobby.
Staff will thoroughly clean and disinfect all adoption playrooms after each visit.
All visitors will be able to request time with one or two cats in the shelter when they schedule their appointment. If time permits, visitors may be able to play with more cats.
Adoptions are first-come, first-served. We cannot hold / reserve any cats or kittens, nor do we accept pre-pays.
- Adopters must be prepared to take the cat home at the end of the appointment. SAFE Haven is not a boarding facility.
The retail shop is open; adopters can purchase carriers, litter boxes, and toys at the shelter during their appointment.
The adoption process begins when you complete an Adoption Interest Survey online. After that, a trained adoption counselor will talk to you on the phone about your needs and the type of cat you are looking for. The counselor will also answer any questions you may have at that time.
Once at the shelter, the counselor will take you around to meet the cats. The counselor will then assist you in picking the very best cat or kitten to make a lifelong match for you and your family, which includes your other pets! They will introduce you to cats that may be a good fit, and you will be able to visit with those cats individually in our playrooms.
Once you have determined whom you would like to adopt, the adoption counselor will go through the adoption contract and the microchip registration form, as well as some additional reference materials that help with the transition into the home. In addition, you will receive a sample bag of food and a toy.
You will be able to take your cat home that same day! Be sure to bring a carrier with you but we have them for sale here too if you don’t have one.
If you need any other necessities for your cat, we have a retail area in our lobby that includes carriers, litter boxes, collars, bowls, toys and more.
Adopters must be 21 years old.
Return policy – If you can no longer care for the cat you adopted from SAFE Haven we are always available to discuss solutions. We do not, however, refund adoption fees.
