They’re Counting on US

Our pets depend on us for everything. Now, hundreds of local families are counting on us, too.

Think about your pet for a moment. They don’t know how much groceries cost. They don’t understand rising bills or tight budgets. They just know that when they’re hungry, someone who loves them will fill their bowl.

Our pets count on us for everything.

But what happens when the people they count on are struggling to afford their next meal? That’s where SAFE Haven comes in.

Nearly 100 families rely on the SAFE Haven Pet Food Pantry a month to feed the cats and dogs they love. And here’s something you might not know: SAFE Haven runs the only dedicated pet food pantry in the Triangle. That means hundreds of families are counting on one pantry to help them care for the animals who depend on them. And that pantry is counting on YOU.

One Pantry. Hundreds of Families. One Community That Cares.

Why the Pantry Matters

Since 2012, SAFE Haven’s Pet Food Pantry has helped families facing financial hardship feed their pets. Unlike groceries for people, pet food cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. For a family stretching a tight budget, a bag of food can mean one less worry. For a pet, it means a full bowl and the comfort of staying at home with the people they love.

Pet Food Pantry By the Numbers

Last year, the SAFE Haven Pet Food Pantry helped keep pets fed, healthy, and with the families who love them:

  • 97 families served every month, on average, totaling 1,170 pantry appointments
  • 350 different families received support throughout the year
  • 1,133 beloved pets had food in their bowls
  • 28,343 pounds of pet food distributed to families in need
  • 41,799 pounds of food and litter donated by our community = 29,981 pounds of food and
  • 11,818 pounds of litter – that’s the weight of about 7 adult elephants!

Thousands of pounds. More than a thousand pets. Hundreds of families able to care for the animals counting on them.
