We’re no strangers to hurricanes here in North Carolina, so when we saw Tropical Storm Barry (potentially Hurricane Barry) heading towards the Gulf Coast, we had to help.
We’re preparing to take in kitties from our animal rescue friends in Louisiana, but we have to make room for them first! SAFE Haven is full of sweet kittens and cats who are ready to go to their fur-ever families. Help us get them to their new homes so we can help kitties in need!

Our official anniversary date is July 17 – the day we rescued 17 cats 25 years ago! We’ll be sharing stories of the many, many cats who we’ve been lucky enough to save but we need your help. SAVE THE DATE: Our Cat Fest and 5K, a celebration of all things cat, will be Saturday, October 5. Family entertainment will include cat yoga, an open house at the shelter and special adoption fees, as well as children’s events. Don’t miss the fun!
Land of the Fur-ee
More pets run away on July 4th than any other day. Fireworks can be terrifying for animals – they’re loud, unpredictable, and hard to escape. You can help by staying calm while you reassure your kitty, putting on white noise or radio to help muffle the sound of fireworks, and limiting opportunities for your pet to slip out a door.
