Our volunteers play a vital role in SAFE Haven’s success. We need volunteers that are outgoing, hardworking, and want to make a difference for cats. Come to our Volunteer Information Session where you can learn about the essential role volunteers play in shelter cat care, community outreach, and adoptions.

We will have a presentation at 6:30 p.m. and then you can learn more from staff and current volunteers about opportunities, training, and the rewards of volunteering at SAFE Haven. Cat lovers ages 16 and up welcome.

Why we need you: Volunteers are needed to help clean the cat cages, socialize the cats, represent SAFE Haven at community outreach events such as Fill-A-Truck, work on special event committees like our Tuxedo Cat Ball, and much more.

You might be familiar with SAFE Care Clinic’s low-cost spay/neuter program, or it’s free rabies/microchip clinics, but did you know that SAFE Care also plays a significant role in finding the paw-fect homes for our kitties?

We recently were called by Wake County Animal Control to help a cat owner in need. Her love of cats had become a little overwhelming. She started adopting kitties and those kitties turned into 80 cats. She was overwhelmed and needed help. She reached out to Animal Control for help and we took in 10 of the 30 cats that have been removed so far to help find them homes for the holidays. We know they won’t be the last that need our help.

As with all cats who are adopted through SAFE Haven’s shelter, each of these new cats starts in the SAFE Care Clinic. They start their journey to adoption with a check-up by our veterinarians, who identify the medical needs of each cat. They help cats get ready for adoption by giving them vaccinations, spaying/neutering them and screening them for serious illnesses that take more medical attention.

SAFE Care is a vital step in the adoption process, but that’s not all they do.

By offering low-cost services, SAFE Care Clinic has, in 2019 alone:

• Sterilized more than 3,268 cats, reducing feline overpopulation
• Vaccinated 68 cats and 82 dogs against rabies, safeguarding pets against this deadly disease
• Microchipped 28 cats, helping identify them should they get lost

Since the clinic started in 2001, more than 35,000 animals have been spayed or neutered. That means one less homeless kitty out there, needing our help.

To keep SAFE Care Clinic’s services going, we NEED your help. We’ve set a goal of reaching $140,000 by the end of the year to continue providing quality care to the cats who come to SAFE Haven. We’ve raised $80,890 so far, but we have more to go!

ADOPT a Kitty for Just $50
All our cats want for Christmas is YOU! From December 21 through 23, you can bring home a cat or kitten for only $50 each. Every cat is ready to go home with a pre-adoption veterinary exam, vaccinations, a spay or neuter, and a microchip.

2019 has been a banner year for us. Not only has it been our 25th year in operation, but we’ve helped more than 856 cats find their fur-ever homes. That’s a record for us and the year isn’t over!

How do we do it? 

No matter how many cats we take in, whether it’s 1 or 100, our staff takes a lot of care to find perfect homes for our kitties. From day one, cats at SAFE Haven receive proper medical care, plenty of attention and lots of love. Each cat is evaluated for personality, likes and dislikes so that when you come in to adopt, we can find the perfect pet for you.

Our amazing volunteers are an essential part of the process. They help do everything from cleaning cages to feeding orphaned kittens to making cat toys for kitties to play with. Even with this remarkably dedicated staff of volunteers, we need one vital component to make it work: YOU!
