What does it mean to foster?
SAFE Haven foster families give short-term care for cats that are either too young to be adopted or need a little extra socialization. They even give cats a place to crash when they need a break from shelter life.

A bonus of having a great group of foster families: SAFE Haven for Cats can take in that many more cats who are ready to be adopted immediately. Fostering save lives just by opening more homes to adoptable cats!

While it can be hard to say goodbye, many fosters say it’s worth it because it’s fun and rewarding to see their kittens find their new families.

A Word from a Foster
Foster Traci Highsmith Holding Four Baby Kittens In Her Hands

SAFE Haven foster volunteer Traci Highsmith was recently featured in the News & Observer for how she brings attention to her foster kittens: social media!

“Shelters like SAFE Haven need social media influencers like Traci,” [Senior Director Patti] Godin said. “Even if her @RaleighKittens follower doesn’t adopt one of her foster kittens, they have visited our website, maybe stopped by and toured our shelter, and perhaps fell in love with another shelter cat who may have not been adopted so quickly.”

Help Us Celebrate 25 Years Of Saving Lives!
We’re Looking For A Lot of Cat Tales!

We can’t believe it’s been 25 years of cat cuddles, kitty kisses, and happy furever homes. You helped find homes for 10,000 cats over all those years. Thank YOU for being part of our 9,125 days of saving lives!

We want to share YOUR stories of the kitties you have adopted from SAFE Haven! We’re looking for the first SAFE Haven cat you adopted to the long line of kitties you’ve saved by bringing home special SAFE Haven cats. There is no story too short or too long!

On our special 25th Anniversary page, we have a form to share your stories. You can also tell your tale in our Facebook Group. We may even choose to share your story with the whole SAFE Haven community as we celebrate our big milestone!

Not sure what to write? Here are some ideas for stories you could share:

    • When did your SAFE Haven cat become part of the family?
    • How did you know your kitty was the one?
    • How many times have you adopted from us and why did you keep coming back to SAFE Haven? Volunteer Rosa Chrismon has adopted five cats from us, and we know she’s not alone!
    • Share your photo from the day your kitty came home with you. What was that first day like for your new family?

On Facebook, Melissa Rose shared an update on her tub-edge buddy Silvia:

Facebook Review from Melissa Rose: My baby girl will be almost 2 years old. It's been a little over a year since I adopted Silvia and can't get enough of her sweet, previous nature with her

Remember: if you share your story on social media, tag us with #SH25 or #4EverSAFE. We can’t wait to hear from you!
