Meet the SAFE Haven Team – Hanna

Hanna Johnston is a cat care associate. What does that mean? That means she helps care for the cats: cleaning their cages, making sure they’re medicated and fed, plus ensuring they’re happy and healthy. Previously a software developer, she volunteered with SAFE Haven so she could get a good understanding of how the shelter worked before joining as an employee.

Get to know Hanna:

Why did you choose SAFE Haven as your next job?
For the cats, of course. After volunteering for over a year, I grew to really like the community of people here, too.

What are you looking forward to learning as an employee of SAFE Haven?
Learning more about the world of shelter medicine and caring for cats on the community scale.

What do you love about cats?
The way they spread their toe beans during a good stretch!

Do you have any pets?
Two cats! Dewey, a 10-year-old orange tabby, and Sybil, an 8-year-old torbie.

What’s an animal you’d like to encounter that you haven’t?
One day, I want to pet an alligator – one of the big ones!

Meow-some Mondays

Meow-some Mondays

We’re about to make Mondays Meow-some!

While normally, SAFE Haven’s adoption center is closed on Mondays, for a short time, we’re offering Monday adoptions by APPOINTMENT ONLY on September 11, 18, and 25 between 1-3 p.m.

Here’s how you take advantage of this opportunity:

    • Meet the cats that we have available for adoption.
    • Fill out our Adoption Interest Survey and in the box under Any additional comments or questions?, tell us you’d like to come during Meow-some Mondays.
    • If an appointment is available, our amazing adoption counselors will reach out to you to schedule one.
    • Appointments are up to 45 minutes long, during which you can meet 2-3 cats.
    • Don’t forget to bring your cat carrier! We offer carriers for sale but encourage you to bring a carrier with you. We know you’ll fall in love with someone here at the shelter. Space is limited – only 3 per Monday – and appointments are first come, first served, so please act fast to make sure you got one of our Monday spots to start your week off with a furry friend!

Prefer to walk in? We’re still available for walk-in adoptions Tuesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

It’s a Kitty Convoy!

It’s a Kitty Convoy!

10-4, we got us a kitty convoy!

7 cats made the long haul drive – almost 500 miles – from the ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City all the way to Raleigh to find them homes here in the South as part of the ASPCA Animal Relocation Program.

Partnerships like ours with the ASPCA ensure we can ensure cats in overcrowded can live their best lives in safe, loving homes.

After physicals to make sure they’re in tip-top shape and some time to adjust to North Carolina life, these kitties are ready for adoption!

Hammer down and come by SAFE Haven to meet one of these sweeties:

The Purr Cup Cafe Scrapbook

The Purr Cup Cafe Scrapbook

Since they started in October 2020, Purr Cup Cafe has helped to find homes for 279 cats and counting! Here’s a look back at some of the cats who have gotten to call the cat room their temporary home.

The Triangle’s first cat cafe, they chose SAFE Haven to partner with and our cats are the featured residents and cuddlers. When you reserve time in the cat room, you can get to know our special kitties while enjoying a cup of joe or yummy matcha latte.

We’re so grateful for all they do and proud to continue our partnership. Visit their website for complete details on their hours, special events and how to book your time in the cat room.
