Cat of the Month for June: Avocato

Cat of the Month for June: Avocato

Avocato is a black cat with leading man energy, and he knows it.

From the moment you walk by, he’ll lock eyes with you using his one-of-a-kind gaze, complete with an adorably unique eye that only adds to his charm and expressive face. Honestly, it just makes him more unforgettable.

This boy is on a mission to get adopted.

He’ll reach through the enclosure to grab your attention, hand out kitty kisses, and if subtlety fails, he is absolutely willing to yell about it. Advocato believes love should be loud.

When he’s really turning on the charm, he flops onto his back with all four paws in the air like a fuzzy little showman saying, “Look how cute I am. Be serious.” And unfortunately for the rest of us, it works every time.

Avocato is affectionate and interactive without being a Stage 5 Clinger. He wants to hang out with you, supervise your day, and be part of the action, but he’s also perfectly content doing his own thing nearby.

He will need a patient adopter or someone willing to give him time to get comfortable. Avocato tends to view his humans as favorite playmates, so gentle love nibbles and playful paw swipes are part of his repertoire. They’re his way of joining the fun, and once playtime is over, he’s all about the cuddles

More to Love

Now, full disclosure: our guy is a little too round for his own good. Weight management food is going to be important so he can stay healthy and keep strutting his stuff for years to come. He also gets eye drops once a day, but he takes them like a champ and doesn’t seem to mind the extra attention.

Ready for some playtime?

Most of all, Avocato is READY. Ready for a real home. Ready to stop trying so hard from inside a shelter. Ready for someone to finally say, “Yep. That’s my cat.” 🖤

Meet Lulu: Our May Cat of the Month

Meet Lulu: Our May Cat of the Month

Meet Lulu: A Gentle Soul in a Loud World

If Lulu were a person, she’d probably be part of the crowd choosing quiet over chaos.

In a world that often celebrates being outgoing, always-on, and constantly social, more and more people are embracing something different. Slower living. Protecting their energy. Finding comfort in safe spaces. Building trust at their own pace.

Lulu is your perfect companion on this journey.

This shy, sweet brown tabby isn’t the kind of cat who rushes up for attention. She prefers to observe from her cozy hut bed, taking in her surroundings before deciding it’s safe to step out. And honestly? There’s something really beautiful about that.

Lulu reminds us that it’s okay to:

  • Take your time warming up to new spaces or people
  • Need a safe, cozy place to recharge
  • Let others come to you with kindness and patience
  • Show up when it matters (especially for dinner, she’s very food motivated!)

Every afternoon, Lulu quietly makes her appearance, ready for her meal. It’s her routine, her comfort, her way of engaging with the world. And once she trusts you? She loves gentle chin scratches and neck rubs. She just needs you to go slow.

Going slow doesn’t mean going alone. Lulu would benefit from having a cat companion in the house. She would likely do well with another cat-friendly kitty. Having a more outgoing cat could show her she doesn’t need to be so scared in her new forever home!

We love a calm queen

Like many people navigating overstimulation, Lulu won’t ask for affection, but she deeply appreciates it when it’s offered with care. She would thrive in a calm, peaceful home, one that understands that connection doesn’t have to be loud to be meaningful.

And just like the shift toward prioritizing mental well-being, Lulu is a reminder that: Softness is strength, and taking your time is not something to fix, it’s something to honor.

At nearly 2 years old, Lulu is ready to find someone who sees her, respects her pace, and builds trust one quiet moment at a time.

Ready for a peaceful companion?

If you’re someone who values calm, connection, and creating a safe space for yourself and for others, Lulu might just be your perfect match. Come meet her and see what a gentle, kind love feels like.

It’s Jazz: Our April Cat of the Month

It’s Jazz: Our April Cat of the Month

What can I say about our girl Jazz… In her younger days, she was constrained by others’ expectations: Be quiet, be serious, be still.

How BORING…

In her heart, Jazz knew she was meant for so much more, for her dearest dream was to become… a SHOWGIRL. And this is what makes her a FABULOUS Cat of the Month for April!

Ready for the spotlight!

When she arrived at SAFE Haven, she knew this was her shot. No one’s going to take away her sparkle now. And sparkle she does…

    • She sings! A mouse toy is all the inspiration she needs to bring the house down with her voice.
    • She dances like Ginger Rogers (one of her early inspirations) when you bring out a feather toy.
    • She’ll make you laugh when she gets the zoomies and melt your heart with her sweet invitations to pet her.

In short, she’s a showstopper. She has wowed multitudes, delighting young and old alike. Her big number has to be seen to be believed. Picture this: Jazz, cute and orange-y, surrounded by BUBBLES. She spins, she trills, she leaps and stomps, all athleticism and grace as she pops each and every bubble as they fall around her. Brava, darling girl, brava!

Could you be her stage hand, blower of bubbles, adoring fan-for-life?

There are a few things you should know before signing the contract to manage our starlet Jazz:

  1. She’s a girl who knows what she wants, and sharing the spotlight with another cat ain’t it.
  2. You gotta have the scratch to keep her in mouse toys and bubbles – a girl has standards, you know.
  3. Like all divas, she can be a bit prone to over-grooming.

Ready to meet the star of your home?

Jazz is waiting to take center stage in a forever family of her own. Visit SAFE Haven to meet her in person or start your adoption application today. Your front-row seat to a lifetime of love, laughter, and a little bit of sparkle is just one “yes” away.

It’s Miss Congeniality: Our March Cat of the Month

Update: Miss Congeniality found her furever home!

After only 4 days, Miss Congeniality found her perfect match. We hardly got to share her spicy personality. We wish her and her new family all the best!

You can still find your perfect date!

Who has style?
Who has grace?
Who’s small and fluffy with the sweetest face?

Miss Congeniality! This tiny beautiful green-eyed girl is the picture of innocence…. when she’s sleeping.

Once she wakes? Hold onto to your hats folks because It’s. About. To. Go. Down. What is “it”? There’s no telling. Seriously. There is NO telling. Will she jump in your lap- and then chomp your arm and run away? Maybe! Will she purr, rub against your leg, and look adoringly up at you like a little angel kitty soliciting pets? It’s possible. Or… will she ignore you completely after casting a dismissive glance your way? It could happen.

If you crave excitement and inconsistency coupled with a disdain for the mundane and predictable DO WE HAVE A CAT FOR YOU!

Our little Miss Congeniality is a bit of a menace: She’s feisty and makes her own fun. We fear she’s very smart. You’ve seen the raptors in Jurassic Park? Kind of like that…

It’s her world and you’re just living in it so buckle up because she’s the one driving this bus

Her interests include:

  • Sitting in boxes (between pounces)
  • Biting you and then running away
  • Playing with feather toys (big fan)
  • Being adorable
  • Playing in wads of packing paper
  • Accepting pets (when she feels like it)
  • Doing as she pleases

Do you want a snuggly laid back lap cat? Look somewhere else.
Do you want a tiny terror on four paws to upend your peaceful existence? WE’VE GOT YOUR GIRL.

Think you have what it takes to win her heart? In the immortal words of Miss Congeniality: “You think I’m gorgeous. You want to date me. You love me.” Prove it. Complete the adoption form and come meet your reigning queen.

Cat of the Month: Boomers

Cat of the Month: Boomers

Update: Boomers found his furever home!

Thanks to everyone who liked and shared Boomers’ story. You were an imporant part in bringing him home.

Every month, SAFE Haven features a special cat who deserves a little extra attention. If adopted, this sweetheart will come home with you, along with a special care package!

Meet Boomers: February’s Cat of the Month (and Your Perfect Valentine)

If your ideal Valentine is handsome, affectionate, a little spicy, and very clear about boundaries, Boomers might just be your soulmate.

Boomers is a big, handsome boy with a quiet personality that sneaks up on you in the best way. At first glance, he’s calm and observant. Give him a little time, though, and you’ll discover a cat who knows exactly how to charm the right person.

His hobbies?

  • Making expert-level biscuits
  • Sitting in cardboard boxes like they were custom-made for him
  • Lying belly-up in doorways so you absolutely cannot open the door without negotiating

Classic Boomers.

When you’re his person, Boomers is all in. He’ll happily curl up in your lap, soak up rubs, and lean into those cozy moments that make winter feel warmer. He loves to play, enjoys affection, and can be incredibly sweet… but let’s be clear – Boomers is a little spicy 🌶️. He knows when it’s time to turn the fun on, and he also knows when it’s time for “mind your business.” And he will let you know. We respect a cat with communication skills.

Boomers doesn’t particularly enjoy shelter life (honestly, same), but his personality absolutely shines in a home setting. Our foster volunteers have seen him really relax, settle in, and really show off what a wonderful companion he can be. He’s just waiting for the chance to light up a home of his own, and maybe even share it with a cat friend, as he seems open to feline companionship.

This Valentine’s Day, skip the chocolates and flowers. Choose a love that makes biscuits, steals your boxes, blocks your doorways, and keeps life interesting. Boomers is ready to be someone’s perfect match.

💌 Think Boomers might be your purrfect match? Come meet him and see if sparks fly. Your February love story could start with a purr, a lap nap, and just the right amount of spice.

Cat of the Month: Swiffer

Cat of the Month: Swiffer

Every month, SAFE Haven features a special cat who deserves a little extra attention. If adopted, this sweetheart will come home with you, along with a special care package!

I’m Swiffer, January’s Cat of the Month. I’m a big, handsome boy with a big personality and an even bigger appreciation for boundaries. At almost 4 years old, I know what I like, what I don’t, and I’m not afraid to let you know.

I’m looking for a very specific kind of person—someone who’s cat-savvy, great at reading body language, and totally on board with living in a calm, low-key home. I’ll be great if I’m your one and only animal companion, with no other cats, dogs, or small children competing for my space. Quiet vibes only, please. I’ll be the perfect roommate, keeping to myself sometimes and hanging out at others. I’d be great company if you work from home, and might help keep you calm during stressful meetings.

I’m a chatty guy who enjoys expressing my opinions (often out loud) and loves vertical space. Cat trees, shelves, or any kind of “cat decoration” are a must—I appreciate a home that lets me climb, perch, and survey my kingdom. Once I feel secure, I’m playful, very food-motivated, and full of charm. Once you’re approved in my book, you’re always approved. I’m not judgmental; I just need a little time before I jump on your lap.

Like everyone with anxiety, I can be a little unsure in new environments, so I need someone patient who will let me settle in at my own pace and respect where I’m at along the way. In return, you’ll get a loyal, entertaining companion with enough personality to fill your whole home. I love toys, so I’ll let you know when I want to play.

Think you might be my perfect match? I’m ready to meet my person: experienced, understanding, and ready to love a cat who knows exactly who he is. Maybe we can learn how to combat anxiety together? If you think we could, fill out an Adoption Interest Survey!
